Zazen Meditation
Zazen is a practice of sitting meditation involving specific upright postures, natural breathing, and a calm, open awareness to “just sit” suspending judgement and allowing thoughts to pass without engagement, aiming to directly experience reality and the present moment as it is. It is a holistic practice where the mind-body integrates, focusing on being fully present and aware.
Our Zazen group meets every Monday at 6:45. The first 15 minutes are for brief instruction, at 7:00 “sitting “ begins. The practice includes two 25 minute “sits” with a short walking/chanting meditation in between (Gyodo).
The group observes a silent space throughout the hour-long practice.
There is a brief Tea Ceremony following meditation.
Please bring a zafu and zabuton or pillow and blanket, and dress in comfortable clothing. Chairs are available for those who cannot sit on the floor, and water bottles are allowed. Suggested donation $2
